Information strategy reviews can be as high level or as detailed as required and are designed to work with the local teams and the local management personnel to obtain an understanding of what opportunities for improvement are available and how best to implement them.

End users are becoming more engaged in the data collection process and as such Local Authorities now have very detailed data held in various sources throughout the organisation.

The time has now come for Local Authorities to review current reporting processes and ensure procedures are in place to collate the information being collected into a form that allows for quick, easy and accurate analysis to take place. It’s vital to look at the bigger picture and to expand the focus from annual statutory return and performance indicator reporting to overall performance management. Often, local teams are working hard to satisfy the needs of the Local Authority and therefore haven’t got the time to invest in taking a step back and reviewing the existing processes, standards and potential enhancements that might be needed.

Strategy {strat-i-gee}: a plan, method, or series of manoeuvres or stratagems for obtaining a specific goal or result

Within a Local Authority, the specific goal is to safeguard adults and children in the community as well as ensuring the well-being of staff and colleagues. Significant time and monetary investments have been made in recent years to improve and enhance social care databases in order to allow the more accurate collection of client and community data.

A Fresh Approach to an Existing Challenge

Igneous are extremely experienced in all aspects of information strategies and are able to offer both high level and detailed advice on how and where to maximise efficiencies with respect to information production. New opportunities may be available to a Local Authority such as GIS (Geographical Information Systems) that allow reports to be plotted on a map. For instance, a user could have a regular report that plots the locations of vulnerable clients or a Contract Manager could see all local providers plotted by their location and availability.

Another challenge is about integrating data from multiple systems to give end users a holistic view of a client with respect to their social care, health and employment details for example. Or perhaps data quality is a challenge being faced and local teams are having to play catch-up with retrospective data cleansing.

A review of the current strategies and processes allows a fresh pair of eyes to understand what are very common and often deeply impregnated challenges, offering suggestions, solutions and even detailed plans on how to improve, enhance and change where necessary.
